Rock the Boat

So we all know I’m a fan of Rocktography, but what we didn’t know is that Rocktography on Boats is even more fun than on land.

Check out these cool shots from a recent wedding we photographed.

Mr + Mrs Sanborn - [DFW Dallas Wedding Photographer]

Saturday was a day full of beer and music…. and beer and dogs…. and beer and hay!
What more could you ask for?
Saturday afternoon, Kandice and I loaded up and headed down to Mansfield for the wedding of Lauren and Kurt.
Their wedding was an amazing mixture of country fun (on a ranch!) and modern flair (hot pink sashes on the girls!)
From their pond-side ceremony with guests perched on bales of hay, to their red-barn reception complete with margarita machine and a candy/treat bar, not one detail was missed. I was in awe!

First, as usual, Kandice and I had to sneak off for a little rocktography!

In addition to the ring bling, Lauren wore a beautiful necklace and earrings…. both of which were passed down from grandmothers. In fact, the necklace included a stone from her grandmothers original engagement ring!!

but some bling was straight from the bride!

Next we headed out into the heat for the ceremony

Then off for some bridal party shots!

As the sun began to set, everyone scooted back outside for a slideshow of photos from the bride and grooms childhoods.

And last, but never least, we snuck the bride and groom away for some after-dark photos!

Congratulations Lauren and Kurt! Your wedding was beautiful, and I hope your honeymoon goes just as smoothly!

Summer’s gettin’ married! - [DFW Dallas Wedding Photographer]

Meet Summer. She’s one of those girls you wish you could hate because she’s alarmingly beautiful. But then you talk to her and realize she’s one of the most sweet, polite and gracious people you’ve ever met, and you can’t help but just be smitten with her.
Summer is one of the brides Kandice and I will be working with in September, and we instantly clicked with her. Her personality just rocks!
So when Summer emailed me months ago, wanting to book bridal photos in downtown Dallas, I was beyond excited! Then the day got here, and the Weather Channel had us all in a tizzy, threatening to storm all afternoon.
We were so excited when the forecast turned out to be totally wrong, and we headed out into the June sunshine and 100 degree heat for 3 hours. Poor Summer in her dress and petticoat!
First we hit up Deep Ellum for some graffiti and bright walls, then went to uptown to catch the trolley for a bit!

And on the way back to our cars, Summer stumbled upon a piece of paper which ironically had only one word written on it: Dustin. The name of her soon-to-be-Groom! What a strange twist! We just had to get a shot with it!

I do, me matey - [DFW Dallas Wedding Photographer]

A few weeks ago, Kandice and I shot the wedding of Nikki and Michael.
While things certainly didn’t go as planned, I couldn’t have imagined a couple that could have handled it with more grace than Nikki and Michael did.

The morning of their wedding, Michael had an unfortunate accident involving their tiny dog, Duke. The accident resulted in a pretty decent scratch to Michael’s iris, which required that he keep his eye taped, and use an eye patch. Yes, on his wedding day.

I think at first, everyone was a little bit in shock, but we all quickly realized that sometimes things happen that are our of your control… and you can either choose to be amused or be irritated. We all settled on amused. ;)
Michael was a trooper from the start, and proceeded to joke with us the remainder of the night about how it really should have been a pirate themed wedding anyways. One of the bridesmaids even sent her husband out to pick up novelty eye patches for the rest of the bridal party to take a photo in! Perfect!

The ceremony and reception were downright BEUATIFUL with hot pink and black/white damask accents. It was seriously a photographers dream wedding. Not one detail was missed, though I’m bummed that I forgot to grab a little box of chocolates for the ride home. Ha!

With a super fun bridal party and parents who could clearly see how in love their children were, the stage was set for an amazing evening.

So here is a quick preview from their happy day. And Nikki? Even if the eye patch isn’t funny now, I swear to you, it will be in another few years. It will be just another hilarious and goofy thing the two of you “did together once… when you were much younger”.

Michael and Nikki Got Married!

Michael and Nikki are Married at Last!

I met Nikki and Michael a year ago when they booked me for their wedding. I immediately loved them. This past year I have enjoyed seeing them again to do their engagements and then to do Nikki’s bridals/boudoirs. I was thrilled that their day came and they were finally going to say their I Do’s! Jackie and I headed out to Dallas to capture their day (by the way, check out Jackie’s blog for her preview!).

The morning of their wedding I received a phone call from Nikki with some bad news. She had gotten a phone call from Michael, their cute little boxer puppy jumped up on the couch and got Michael in the eye, as in a puppy nail in the eye. Scratched corneas are no fun. :( Nikki had not planned a pirate themed wedding….but we had to work with it. So Michael showed up looking oh so cool in his black eye patch. I mean; he is 6′7″, a policeman, and a handsome fella…he was able to rock the patch. Totally.

Another thing…I have to brag on Nikki. She has beautiful style, and the wedding showed it. So many lovely details, all thanks to the lovely Nikki. Great job girl!

The Guys-Doesn’t Michael make the patch work?

The serious pose
I knew Nikki was a daddy’s girl when we first met. She talked about him so much. On this day the love for her dad showed. She was so sweet and emotional…her daddy is obviously her hero.

The Awesome Gals. They were a blast!

Details…this was just beautiful, and her grandmother’s

The I Do’s….so sweet.

Michael and Nikki could not have asked for a better day!

Saying a little prayer

This kiss, folks, was so awesome. See her hold on him? So romantic, I love this image. Love it.

XOXO

Now, remember when I said that Nikki had her boudoir photos taken for Michael. Well, as soon as they walked down the isle, Nikki grabbed Michael to give him a little present. A book she made for him. I think he liked. ;-) And was pleasantly surprised. I love his smile here.

I think he said Thanks. :)

Jackie and I grabbed the lovebirds for some outside shots, I took this while they were posing for Jackie.

His adorable niece wanted in on the dance. She was so stinkin’ adorable. Her brother is one of the boys to the left. I love the boys hanging on each other.

The Dollar Dance was a success! They got the hook-up!

Love his face here! :)

Time to leave! Don’t get Michael’s one good eye! Haha!

Congratulations to such an adorable and sweet couple.

Many a Wedding Preview - [DFW Dallas Wedding Photographer]

Hey everyone! Just wanted to update our blog really quick and get you all to join me in telling Kandi adios for the weekend.
She’s headed out to Colorado to shoot a wedding, so she’ll be MIA for a few days.
I noticed that she hadn’t had a chance to post her previews on here, but they ARE on HER blog…. and frankly they are just too good to miss, so I thought I’d help her out while she’s out of pocket and post them for you all to see!
Hope you enjoy these and wish Kandi safe travels!

And if you are contacting us about booking a wedding this weekend, don’t be surprised if it takes until next week to get a response. While Kandi is in Colorado for a wedding, I’m heading to Ooooooooklahoma wherethewindgoessweepingdowntheplains (sorry, couldn’t resist) for a Boudoir event! But we promise to return your emails/calls ASAP! Thanks!

The Morning After: Joel + Kenzey - [DFW Dallas Wedding Photographer]

I almost got my sea legs! ;)

Hope everyone has a fantastic day, and congrats again to Joel and Kenzey!

Amber + Bryan - [DFW Dallas Wedding Photographer]

This is just a *very* brief preview for Amber, because I know I won’t have time to post more of her photos until at least the end of the week. So Amber, I hope this ties you over a bit!

Amber + Bryan were married on Saturday, so Kandi and I trekked over to Fort Worth. The location they chose (a golf course) was *so* beautiful. We were really excited to see the outside of the building, as the details were amazing.

Inside, the entire reception room (and bridal party!) was decked out in black, white, and red. Very classy, very modern. We loved it.

Here are a few favorites from their special day:

Fish Frys, Horseraces and Tornadoes… Oh my! - [DFW Dallas Wedding Photographer]

Last week, Kandi and I headed out to Mineola, Texas for what would be one of the most memorable weddings we’ve had all year. The bride and groom were totally laid back (which obviously fits very well with Kandice and I) and had a super cool wedding, complete with cake reception and Fish Fry! In place of dancing, they chatted and watched the horse races! It was so fun and different from any wedding we’ve ever shot together that it allowed us to try some really fun stuff!

First is the bride getting ready for her big day

Then she met with her bridesmaid who MADE the necklace the bride would wear. (and btw, Julie, I totally lost her card in the chaos that was the ride home - you’ll hear more about that in a minute, lol - so if you could comment on this and post a link to her etsy, that would rock!) The jewelry was downright stunning and matched the brides dress perfectly.

After the ceremony was a cake reception. They had their wedding cake…

MAT_6877-2

and small cakes on every table. Each table cake was a different design and flavor, making for a fun cake-tasting challenge! The only downfall to so many cakes: You can’t stop eating cake until you’ve tried them all! (notice the sprinkles cupcakes in the background? No detail was missed, I tell ya!) And yes, the lime green item in the background is another table-cake.

Now here’s where the weather was good and bad. It was beautifully overcast that day. Did I mention that this wedding was on Saturday? Yeah, that day with all the storms and the collapsed Cowboys Practice Stadium and everything. The cloudiness was perfect for some outdoor detail shots like this

MAT_7047-2

MAT_7052-e

but it also made for a hectic trip back to Denton.

Right as the rain started to come in, we all scooted out of the cake reception

MAT_7057-e

and headed towards the fish fry

MAT_7075-2

MAT_7124-e

And we wrapped up around 6:30, just in time to make it to Terrell before running into the worst of the storm. We were forced off the road by blinding rain and horrible lightning, but found a little Chinese Buffet to stop at and ride the storm out. You’ll have to ask Kandi how their egg rolls were, I was too riled up by the storm to actually eat LOL

Congratulations on your wedding, guys! I hope your honeymoon is a blast this summer!
